Short overview of the project
The Inflatable Mattress Fort invention is a patented inflatable that is applied to the everyday mattress for children’s recreational use. The inflatable has been specially engineered to accommodate a queen mattress size and sustain child’s play in a safe and entertaining manner. The prototype has been designed and fabricated to demonstrate the use, applicability, and inflation time for assembly.
Main challenge or problem
The product creates a fun and dynamic environment in the bedroom for any child to enjoy. There are four variants patented for the invention: Media House, Sports Complex, Ball Pit, and Castle. This project encompassed engineering and fabricating the Media House variant of the Inflatable Mattress Fort invention.
What solution/design work was provided
Specialty engineering was provided to design the fabric (PVC) layout, seam locations, welding locations, and air flow design. Calculations were performed to properly size the inflatable and determine air pump efficiency. To ensure safety, stress calculations were performed to determine safety margins and stability of the inflatable when in use. Ultimately, the design was physically prototyped for testing and applications.
Final outcome/result
The final outcome for this project was a fully documented engineering package which included: CAD files, engineering specifications, stress calculations, air flow calculations, materials and manufacturing instructions, and sourcing to a manufacturer. The prototype was completed by the manufacturer and was shipped directly to the customer.
